Yesterday was our first day of school. Besides a few meetings in brutally hot rooms, I did manage to get some work done in my classroom. I wish I had more time to be fully prepared but I’m happy with the progress I made.
Thankfully we have a few days off before school gets into full swing. My suggestion to students is to slowly transition back to your normal sleeping habits. Otherwise you’ll be up all night before school and when your alarm sounds you won’t be a happy camper at all. It happens to me every year. I’m used to sleeping late and bam! the alarm sounds at 5. UGH!!!
I finished off the summer with some light reading: Baseball Brainteasers. Elizabeth, you and your dad would probably enjoy challenging each other’s rules knowledge with this one. I’ll bring it to school eventually. If any of my new students are interested in borrowing this book, I always have a library of books in the back of my room (mostly baseball and history) that you can borrow at any time.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation and be safe with the bad weather we are possibly going to get the next day or so.

Over the past week, I have been turning my light out a little earlier each night so I am used to going to bed earlier when school starts. I have been trying to get up earlier too, but that hasn’t been as successful… That book sounds cool, Mr Dowling!

In a perfect life, I would sleep from 9:00 P.M. to 5:00 A.M.

Okay, so I know I haven’t been commenting on the Mets lately, because there hasn’t been much to say. Basically, they have been lousy. But, not today! In today’s game, the Mets absolutely slaughtered the Cubs, winning 18-5. They haven’t scored 18 runs since 2005. They also banged out 21 hits, their most in a game in 10 years. Every spot in the lineup had at least one hit. Ike Davis, of course, led the way. He went 4-6 with his 2nd homer in 2 days, and finished a triple short of the cycle. Wow! Ruben Tejada also had his best offensive game in his career thus far, hitting his 1st major league home run. Jon Niese got the win, although he didn’t do very well, going 6 innings while surrendering 5 runs. Still, today, it was enough. The Mets batted around three times in this game, had 3 5-run innings, and Angel Pagan had 7 plate appearences (2-6 with a walk). All I can say is, I enjoyed it. Better make the most of 18 runs! Current Mets Record: 66-69. (I think)

Which might not be good for tomorrow…

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m hoping for a snow day….

Wyn, I really don’t think that’s likely. And it hasn’t sunk in for me yet that school starts tomorrow. Maybe it’ll sink in by, say, Halloween.
