…at least for teachers. We go back to school on Thursday (for one day). It shouldn’t be too bad but it is the first time we’ve gone back to school before Labor Day.
Finished Another Book
I finished reading Game Change, a book about the 2008 Presidential Election. It is actually a pretty good book. Surprisingly, there were a lot of things that went on during the election that I had forgotten. It is a great read into what makes an election and the amount of time, energy and money that goes into running for President. The book will also give you an idea how the small states like Iowa and New Hampshire are really important in picking our nominees for President.
Everyone in this book (except for perhaps Obama) comes out looking less than good. Even if you aren’t an Obama fan, this is a book worth reading if you are into politics.

Reds Rolling
It takes 3 home runs by Jay Bruce to overshadow the Sports Illustrated cover boy. Bruce’s 3 homeruns, along with the first career HR by Chris Valaika and 8 solid innings propelled the Reds to a big victory over the Cubs.
The Reds are a bit banged up with injuries to Brandon Phillips, Laynce Nix and Mike Leake but it looks as if Aaron Harang is just about ready to return and we could be seeing Aroldis Chapman soon.
If you check out the top left corner of our page, you will see the Reds magic number. Any Reds win or Cardinals loss reduces that number. If it gets to 0 the Reds will be in the playoffs.
Next week is the big weekend…3 games against the Cardinals. In addition to the Cardinals being in 2nd place, there is a lot of bad blood from the brawl these two teams had a few weeks ago.
A Message to the Oblivious
A drove past a certain oblivious blog visitor twice yesterday. Despite honking my horn repeatedly, this person did not notice. Perhaps this person could not hear me because of his I-Pod. I won’t give away his name, but his initials are C.H.
Don’t play your music so loud…you won’t be able to hear anyone! Besides, it is bad for your hearing.

Seriously though,
where was this?
I assume it was by the various ponds, because I usually pass by those twice.
Don’t blame me, blame the geese poop. Seriously, all other senses literally shut off when you walk by that place.

Incidentally, I usually walk in the very VERY early morning, where it’s much quieter. I don’t have to listen to music so loud then. I know those things can destroy your hearing.

Actually, Cjesse Hepstein is to blame.

Also, Mr Dowling, you say that the Reds magic number is on the top left corner of the page, but for me, it’s the top right corner. Does anyone else see that?
Comment by Mr. Dowling on August 28, 2010 at 4:16 pm
It was turning the corner onto Main Street around 6:45 or 7.
Comment by Mr. Dowling on August 28, 2010 at 4:16 pm
Yes, my mistake. It is the top right corner.

Chrsi, what are you doing up at 7 am on a Saturday?!?!? Today, as usual, I got up at around nine.

On a serious note, will there be 7th and 8th grade homework club with you Mr. Dowling this coming year? will it be Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15-4:15? If it is, I am seriously considering coming to it because you are the go-to person (other than my sister and my dad who can be really busy) for social studies help. thanks

Yep.

Unless something major changes between now and the start, there will be Homework Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Homework Club typically starts near the end of September.

All you do is you type a colon, and then an end parentheses, so this comes up:

Also, here’s an EQOTD to think about, now that summer’s almost over: Would you extend summer vacation? If so, how long? (be reasonable) Or would you keep it the length it is now?
Comment by Jesse on August 31, 2010 at 12:37 am
I on the other hand will you smileys for evil
Comment by Jesse on August 31, 2010 at 12:41 am

Jesse…if that was possible, I would have done it already…
Comment by Iliana on August 31, 2010 at 4:56 pm
EQOTD: Longer, of course. I really really really really really really really don’t want this year to come ever. I wish I could skip 8th grade completely. But I have no choice.
Comment by Elizabeth on September 1, 2010 at 6:28 pm
I personally might make it a week or so longer, but not much. I would prefer if we got out of school a little earlier, and started at the same time we do now.
