Glad to hear some of your comments on Barack Obama’s smoking. Hopefully the comments that were posted were indicative of the thoughts/beliefs of all of our students.
Don’t Smoke…it is as simple as that.

The US loses the Olympics???
Most of us are aware that the United States had the most medals at this year’s Olympic Games. However, according to the Wall Street Journal, the United States also had the 2nd most last place, 2nd to last and 3rd to last place finishes. The only country with more of these last place finishes was Russia. So I guess technically, they were the losers in the Olympics.

Did You Know?
If you toss a penny 10000 times, it will not be heads 5000 times, but more like 4950. The heads picture weighs more, so it ends up on the bottom.

Really long day today. I have regular classes today, then homework club and then I’ll be going to the wrestling matches after that. I’ll probably be exhausted by the end, but I’m looking forward to it. This is my first middle school wrestling meet ever.

This Date In History
1836-Texas declares its independence from Mexico
Birthdays Today Include Sam Houston, the original President of Texas and Dr. Seuss. I was never a big fan of Dr. Seuss. I found his books to be too long. Today also would have been the birthday of Dewitt Clinton. Question of the Day: Does anyone know who he is/what he is most known for?

Dewitt Clinton was indeed known for getting the Erie Canal to take place. He was the governor of New York.
The wrestling matches were great. We had a lot of Green representation and I recognized some guys from the cafeteria also. There were a few Green students who didn’t have a matchup. I’m sure that was because Clarke was scared. Just off the top of my head, the team consists of Ben O., Brian C., Keton K., Mark L. There are also some Green 8 students: Zach H., Nick D., David T., and Joe B. If I missed you, you’ll have to forgive me. It was a lot going on at once.

Next time I play heads or tails, I’ll be sure to pick tails.

Sorry, but I don’t know who you are talking about or what he is famous for. Oh, and Mr Dowling, I am loving the recently added Did you know? section of the blog. I look forward to it. And today I finished my project. If I do say so myself, I think it looks pretty good.

I actually also knew about the penny thing, so I always pick tales. I also remember that Dewitt is famous for the Erie Canal because I remember I think that in 5th grade we had to repeadedly say ” Dewitt’s Ditch”.

We learned about the Erie Canal in 5th grade as well, but I don’t think the name Dewitt was ever mentioned by our teacher. Hmmm…

It most likely was Elizabeth. Jesse just had a way of remembering it.

The tails fact is good to know next time I’m “gambling”.

    Hey Elizabeth,
where’s the eqotd? There hasn’t been one for a while.

Wait, now that I think of it, most people catch the penny in one hand and flip it over on their knuckles. So heads would be better.

  8. Comment by Wyn on March 2, 2010 at 7:29 pm

But you don’t know if they are gonna do that or not. So I guess gambling is fair again.

    *sigh*

Wyn, what are you talking about? What did I most likely do?
I haven’t posted the EQOTD in a while because I can’t think of any. Also, while I was doing the Olympian Commentary, it would have been too much competition to have both.

    Dear Mr. Dowling
Final score 30 or 31 to 40 . . . WE LOST! Still we were in the lead for a little while, but of course we choked! Oh well, we’ll get’ em next time. No points for me and i missed 2 foul shots! It’s okay, at least I shot. They were pretty good and had this one player that plays in AAU like Mia, Kate, and I (which is like a advanced league). She was really good that number 23. So, 2-1 not so bad.

    Signed,
My uncle Chris (the one that was chased by the bear) JUST KIDDING!

Thanks for the basketball update…although I was hoping for a better outcome.

Sorry Elizabeth. Messed up my commas again.

    It should read:
    It most likely was, elizabeth.

Refering to the fact that Clinton had been mentioned.

  13. Comment by Elizabeth on March 3, 2010 at 3:42 pm

Oh, thanks. I get messed up when commas aren’t in the right place. It’s not entirely your fault. And referring to Clinton being mentioned, I have absolutely no recollection of him being mentioned, but then again, I forget a lot of things from 5th grade!
