President Obama recently had a physical and the results were just released.
He seems to be in good health despite some cholesterol issues.
One of the problems that the President needs to address is that Obama still continues to smoke. What do you think of this in light of the fact that his administration, especially Mrs. Obama, have been so involved in promoting healthy living?
Many people look up to the President, especially this one. Could youngsters begin to think that smoking is a “cool thing to do”?
What’s your opinion? I’d like to know!

I personally did not know that Obama smoked. I wouldn’t have guessed; he seems so focused on the health and well-being of our nation’s people. I would hope that kids don’t start to think that it is “cool”, and I for one am dead set against it. There are so many horrible stories of people having lung cancer or losing their voice because of smoking.

i didnt know either that Obama smoked!
Smoking is not cool.. there is no reason to do it. People think it will make them happier or relieve their stress, but it just makes it worse. There is not one positive effect in smoking and.. your basically killing yourself.. People have to be stupid to even take time away from other things and inhale toxins into your body.
Hopefully, adults and kids will both look past this one negative quality of Obama and see the positive. Smoking is horrriiiibbllle NEVER DO IT! I hope that most kids are smarter then that.

I’m with Elizabeth on this one. I really didn’t know that. It’s really terrible because yes indeed so many young kids look up to him. As President of the U.S, he is in fact focused on health. And although I agree with some things that he says but I think he’s being a bit hypocritical.

I had no idea that Obama smoked. I don’t think that many kids will pick it up because of this, but it still is disturbing…

I doubt this will have any impact on children.
I don’t think children see Obama as a “cool” person, rather they respect him because he’s the president.
If it was public knowledge that some famous actor smoked, then we could be seeing problems.
Why in the world would anyone pick up a cigarette in this day and age?
And yet, I see kids up at the high school smoking.
pff. whippersnappers.

For me, there is absolutely no good reason to smoke. None whatsoever. I bet a lot of famous movie stars smoke. I don’t think that anyone would be surprised to learn that some famous actor smokes. And I agree with anyone who said that this won’t affect children.

I actually knew that Obama smokes. I am suprised that all of you guys did not. It has been in many newspapers, and that is a major reason why people hate him. I also agree that smoking is horrible. Did you know that the tobacco is the only drug “when used as directed, will kill you”?

Really? Well, then Newsday hasn’t reported it because I haven’t seen any articles about Obama smoking.
No, I didn’t know that.

That’s funny. You’d think the news would have made a big deal about it. I guess his campaign was so sucessful that no one really cared.

I don’t think Obama smoking is a reason to hate him, Jesse.
Most people who are around 45 and older I have a tiny bit more sympathey for. It was a very different time back than, and it was a lot more socially acceptable to be a smoker. I’m sure it would be very hard for him to quit.
I have absolutely no sympathey for smokers who have started within the last 10-15 years. They are just stupid.

Youre right about that Chris, but I think Jesse was talking about people in the minority.

I see your point Chris. I once read somewhere that back in the 1940′s and 1950′s, around 44% of Americans smoked. I am assuming that this was only referring to adults. Now, according to the same article which I think was from about 4 years ago, around 22% of American’s smoke. I thought that that number would be lower. If anyone has competing info to add, do so because I think that this is outdated.

You are right Chris, I agree with you. Anyone know how old Obama is?
Comment by Mr. Dowling on March 3, 2010 at 5:47 am
President Obama is 48 years old.
