A New Day…A New Week…A New Month

Back to School and hard to believe it is already March!

I didn’t watch much of the hockey game and from reports of the action, I missed a thriller. I guess I can’t pretend that I like hockey not even for 2 hours. Having said that, I would have preferred a USA win.

Did You Know?
The letter W is the only letter in the alphabet that doesn’t have 1 syllable… it has three.

Today we continue the legislative branch. Remember, there is a homework assignment due tomorrow. I enjoy teaching the government. Unfortunately, it is a lot of memorization so it doesn’t end up being fun for many students.

On This Day In History
1781-The Articles of Confederation were adopted…even before the official end of the war.
This set of rules was doomed to fail. Eventually, it would be replaced by the Constitution. I think that’s been working out for the United States ever since.
1790-Congress authorized the first Census. The Census is basically a population count. It is important for a number of reasons. Perhaps the biggest is representation in the House of Representatives. It also has an impact on the Electoral College. The number of electors will change for 2012.
Today’s birthdays include Dirk Benedict, from the A-Team (he is the guy pictured on the left)
.
It also is the birthday of Ron Howard. It would have been the birthday of composer/bandleader Glenn Miller.

Started watching Frost/Nixon yesterday. Seems like a pretty good movie and worth checking out. It is playing pretty frequently on HBO.

Wrestlemania Moments
Wrestlemania XVI-Pete Rose returns.

Enjoy the rest of the day.

The three people from left to right look very scary, but I’m not intimidated by the guy at the top of the picture. For some reason he doesn’t look like he’s about to shoot me.

It’s okay that we lost hockey because we still managed to “win” the olympics. We were 8 medals ahead of Germany at final count I think…..

Of course W would be special………I knew that!

I find Hockey quite violent, so I don’t watch it. But who watched the closing ceremonies? I did.

I actually enjoy learning about the government, despite the memorization… The Study Slider that we created in Core Extension seems to be doing the job… Mr. Dowling, you you have any extra sheets to go into the slider? I’m all filled up!

I watched the closing ceremonies! The Russian National Anthem is very long…

I only watched the closing ceremonies until 9:30. Honestly, they were more boring than the opening ceremonies. Nothing was going on for a lot of the time. I recorded it, but I probably won’t have time to watch it.
I watched the last 5 minutes in overtime. It was thrilling. Even if you care nothing about hockey, which I don’t, it was still worth watching. The US goalie played superb the whole tournement and was named the tournement MVP.

The year is definitely going by too fast! I wish it would slow down a little bit!

We miss you Jenny…I sent home a TON of work today so you won’t be missing much. I’m sure I’ll be your favorite teacher after all the work you have to do.
    Feel better!

    I meant “their” not “there”.

I only have to glue on a few more pictures, but I’d say that 80% of the hard work is completed.

Are you doing your collage on a specific shape? Elizabeth?

  14. Comment by Elizabeth on March 2, 2010 at 5:04 pm

Nope. Mine is just a rectangle. How about yours, Wyn?

  15. Comment by Wyn on March 2, 2010 at 6:22 pm

I like my shape….too much to tell. I don’t want anyone else using it. In all seriousness, it isn’t really much of a special shape, rather an obvious theme.

    Nope….;)

How about the letters W-Y-N as the shapes?

    Guess again…..

Fine, here’s my final guess: Is it in the shape of a KKH?
