Baseball Thoughts

Programming Alert: Check out the replay of the Old-Timers game at Yankee Stadium. It is on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 AM. I taped it earlier this week and it was a great opportunity to check out some baseball history. It is odd watching “old-timers” that I remember watching as a kid like David Cone, Charlie Hayes, Pat Kelly, Rick Cerone, Mike Mussina etc. There are very few things better than DVR.

The Cincinnati Reds went to LA and were destroyed by the Dodgers. Manny Ramirez is unbelievable and that town absolutely loves him. The Dodgers might be the team to beat this year if they don’t wear down by October.

Australia

There is a small group of students that are on the edge of their seats waiting to find out if I want to go to Australia.

My answer…..I’ll tell you tomorrow!

One thing I will say is that it is a long flight. What is the longest flight you have ever taken? For me, it is about 12 hours to Hawaii.

“And That’s The Way It Is”

It certainly was sad to hear of the passing of an American legend, Walter Cronkite.
I was barely alive when Cronkite retired from the CBS Evening News in 1981 but my lasting memory of him is the clip of Cronkite telling the US about the death of President Kennedy in 1963.
I heard an interesting story about Cronkite last night. When the anchors of news programs are not on TV, their substitute would often begin “Good evening. I’m ________. Walter Cronkite is on assignment.” Typically this would mean the anchor is out doing an investigative report that would air later on once completed. However, according to George Grande, Cronkite’s boat was called “Assignment”. So when Cronkite was out on assignment he was often enjoying one of his passions, boating on “Assignment”.

Hamburgers

If you are a fan of hamburgers you have to check out Five Guys Burgers and Fries. It is an excellent fast food chain. I won’t defend its nutritional value…however, it is definitely worth the money. The closest in our area are probably in Levittown and Long Beach.

If you are in those areas at any point during the summer check it out and let me know if you enjoyed it.

The Reds are coming to town!

Anyone with nothing to do this weekend should go to Citi Field to watch the Mets play the World famous Cincinnati Reds. Both teams are struggling right now. I’m especially looking forward to Saturday night’s matchup of Cueto vs. Santana.
